Project 5.

Clay. The Mask of Sub Zero.

What do you get when you ask a Mortal Kombat nerd to make a creative project involving software that is used mainly by cosplayers? Sub-Zero's mask ofcourse!
I thought of this as soon as the assignment was handed out and proceeded to work on it.
The main challenge was the thickness of the model, since the width seemed too less to allow foam to expand. There was also a problem trying to make really tiny surfaces stick to each other. The gaps were filled using a glue gun.
After making sure that foam filled the paper model out completely, we put (what I like to call) thermoclay i.e. wax based clay that only softens on heat application. I nearly burnt off the skin from my thumbs trying to smoothen the surface! (Not from the heat but from the friction!)
I used a mesh to provide the exhaust texture on the side of his mask. Overall, I'm very happy with the way this turned out.

For the Lin Kuei!
